Mari Holmes was a founder of the NM Rainbow Artists and a founding member of the NM African American Artists Guild. She was born in Queens, NY where she developed her craft and became an accomplished artist. She moved to Albuquerque in 1988. She created fabric art reflecting her heritage; from her great-grandmother enslaved in Virginia, to her Irish grandfather. She collected rocks, wood, wire, fabric pieces to incorporate in her art. Of this piece she wrote, “Machine and hand etched and completely hand beaded. Fabric printed in Dakar, Afrika.”
